300 Hunter workers to strike over Downer pay battle

WORK on the Newcastle light rail faces disruption as 430 Downer workers strike for three days at various Hunter and Illawarra sites in pursuit of a 3 per cent pay increase from a company that unions say is extremely profitable.

A mass meeting will be held at Hexham on Wednesday morning with with striking workers expected to reassemble in Newcastle and march to the light rail site in Hunter Street.
